The use of peer educators as a means to effect behaviour change is born out of studies in social psychology with various types of peer groups, which showed that behaviour change could be effected through using peer influence. Because people have generally accepted group norms or standards of behaviour about what is right or wrong that is common to their contemporaries, behaviour patterns in issues of entertainment, preference for drink and socialization tend to be influenced by the group.
Peer educators development programme involves mainly Training of Trainers (T.O.T) in specific areas of the Youth Alive activities components. It has the following training activities / workshops;
Behaviour change Peer educators training
Basic counselling skills training for peer club leaders and teachers
